Piercing Aftercare

Body Piercings:

. WASH your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason

° Clean your piercing twice a day with a sterile saline solution (Neilmed wound wash, Steriwash,

etc.) twice a day, do not use contact solution, antibacterial soap, nasal sprays, etc.

° Use a cotton swab for hard to reach areas

Avoid scented soaps, oils, ointments, lotions, makeup, and astringents for at least the first 30

days

° Avoid beaches, pools, lakes, bathtubs, and sand for at least 30 days (showers are ok!)

° No gauze, tapes, adhesives, or bandages on your piercing

° Be careful around rags, towels, and loofas as they may potentially snag your piercing

Do not twist, turn, move, mess with, pull at/play with your jewelry

Oral Piercings:

Rinse mouth as needed (about 4-5 times a day) with an antiseptic or alcohol-free mouth rinse

for at least 20 seconds

For the first 30 days avoid beer, dairy, bodily fluids of any kind (saliva, semen, etc), kissing, oral

sex, and smoking

Do not bite, suck, or play with your jewelry

Be careful with spicy food as it may irritate the piercing

During healing, maintain good oral hygiene

What is Normal?

Piercings may bleed on and off for the first few days to week, bruising in the area, redness, and

swelling are all normal for fresh piercings.

Your piercing may feel healed before healing is complete- be patient!

Even healed piercings can shrink or close if jewelry is removed for any length of time. Unless there is

an issue with the size, style, or material, of the initial jewelry, leave your jewelry in for the duration of

the healing process!

Itching is normal for a healing piercing, do not scratch it!

Secretion of white-ish or yellow fluid as well as the formation of "crust" around the piercing
